We won!
As the hours clicked by and the numbers rolled in, a collective sign of relief was heard, followed closely by enthusiastic cheers. I celebrated my victory with supporters at the Contented Cow in downtown Northfield on election night, November 4th, and am so gratified to know that it is a new day for our community! Never have I felt this amount of enthusiasm and excitement for an election—both here and nationally. We made history by electing our nation’s first black president, and also Northfield’s first woman mayor!
The fact that I have a broad base of support from throughout the community—I won in 8 of the 9 precincts—and that the margin was significant—59% of the vote—makes the victory all the sweeter. Women also made great strides in leadership positions throughout the city, winning in every race they were running. So we go from having an all male council to a female majority come January 1st!
Thank you to all of you who have supported my campaign, from designing “the look” to schooling and advising me, giving financial backing and displaying lawn signs! You have helped spread my message of hope and vision for Northfield’s future, and should all take credit for this win. Thank you.
And now the real work begins…
